A Certificate of Veterinarian Inspection (CVI) is a document ensuring a horse has recently been evaluated by a veterinarian for signs of illness. A CVI is required for some travel and helps reduce disease spread by stopping transport of sick horses.
When a CVI is required, it must accompany each shipment and list the following information: Consignor and location from which the animals have been moved; Name and address of the owner at the time of movement; Consignee and destination of the animals; Number of animals covered by the certificate;
In addition to meeting various physical health criteria and depending on the species, age, origin, destination, and purpose of travel, the animals to be moved may need to have certain tests, treatments, vaccinations, or other procedures done before they qualify for inclusion on a CVI.
How long is a CVI good for? a. In most cases, a CVI is good for 30 days from the date that it is issued. During certain infectious disease outbreaks, the destination may require a shorter time frame for CVI acceptance.
