The Statewide Transit Individual (STI) tax helps fund public transportation services within Oregon. The tax is one-tenth of one percent (0.001), or $1 per $1,000 of wages.

If you work for a business located in Oregon, your employer will automatically withhold the STI tax from your wages. If youre an Oregon resident and work for an employer located outside of Oregon, your employer isnt required to withhold the STI tax on your behalf, but may choose to do so voluntarily.
The Statewide Transit Tax is calculated based on the employees wages as defined in ORS 316.162. Employees who arent subject to regular income tax withholding due to high exemptions, wages below the threshold for income tax withholding, or other factors are subject to Statewide Transit Tax withholding.
You must withhold the statewide transit tax at the same time you withhold the state income taxes. How much do I need to withhold? One-tenth of 1 percent or . 001. Example: $1.00 for every $1000.00 of wages.
