Form 3903 can be completed for the amount of moving expenses paid by the taxpayer. If a moving expense deduction is computed, it will be reported on Schedule 1 (Form 1040) Additional Income and Adjustments to Income, on Line 14.
The timing of your move must be closely related to the start of your new employment to qualify for the tax deduction. To meet this standard, youll have to start your new job and work full time for at least 39 weeks within the first 12 months after your move.
If you move to a new home because of a new principal workplace, you may be able to deduct your moving expenses whether you are self-employed or an employee. But you must meet both the distance and time tests that follow prior to completing line 1 through line 5 of form FTB 3913.
