The role and mandate of the Registry is: To protect vulnerable patients, residents and clients. To provide a database of credentialed* (\u201cregistered\u201d) care aides and community health workers who are eligible for employment in publicly funded organizations and settings.
To work in a publicly funded health care organization, all care aides and community health workers are required to register. An online application must be submitted for review. Once the application has been evaluated and approved by the Registry, the applicant will be provided with a registration number.
Please be advised that it takes 5 business days for the Registry to complete an initial application review. We ask that applicants do not contact the Registry to enquire about application/registration status until at least 5 business days after an initial application is submitted.

In order to qualify to register, you must complete a six- to nine-month Health Care Assistant program offered by colleges in BC, or show proof of equivalent training and experience. Currently, private health care providers may hire health care assistants who are not registered, but this may change at any time.
Who is eligible to be on the Registry? Licensed Practical Nurses, Registered Nurses and Registered Psychiatric Nurses who are licensed to practice in Canada. (Nurses educated outside of Canada and not licensed to practice in Canada must apply as internationally educated health care professionals.)
Entry requirements. There are no set entry requirements to become a healthcare assistant. Employers expect good literacy and numeracy and may ask for GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and maths. They may ask for a healthcare qualification, such as BTEC or NVQ.
Graduate of an HCA Program in BC Upon successful completion of a recognized HCA program, you can register as an HCA.
