Normal frequency is between five and eight voids in 24 hours. A high fluid intake may increase frequency.
In general, it should take about 20 seconds to pee. You can set a timer, or simply by counting “one-Mississippi, two-Mississippi,” Dr. Miller says. If you're significantly over or under 20 seconds, you're likely holding your pee too long or going too often.
A voiding diary is a daily record of your bladder activity and urination behaviour. The diary usually contains objective data on your voiding patterns and output, and any incidents of incontinence and its possible causes. Please complete the voiding diary for the entire 24-hour period.
The volume of urine passed each time by a normal adult will vary from around 250 - 400mls. This is the same as about 2 cupful's.
What do the results mean? The normal range of urine output is 800 to 2,000 milliliters per day if you have a normal fluid intake of about 2 liters per day. However, different laboratories may use slightly different values.

Using charts to record the times urine is passed and the volumes voided over a period of time gives an objective measure of bladder performance. The charts are usually completed by patients after they have been taught how to do so by a health professional.
Empty your bladder every hour (even if you don't need to). Example: If you wake up at 7 am, use the bathroom at 7am, and wait until 8 am to urinate again. At 8am, urinate whether you feel you need to or not. Day 4-6: Now increase the amount of time between voids to every 1 ½ hours.
A healthy urine output for an adult person should be greater than or equal to 0.5 ml/kg/hr. This minimum value is a bit different for children (<18 years old), which is 1 ml/kg/hr.
How to record in the diary: Time of day: Use one voiding diary sheet for each 24-hour period. Circle your bedtime (example, 11pm) and wake up time (example 6am) directly in the time column. Start recording all fluid intake and urinary events starting at 7am and ending the following day at 7am.
You may annoy your toddler by reacting to false alarms, which can lead to resistance. Set a timer of between 20 minutes and an hour. Every time the timer goes off, sit your child on the potty. Good for avoiding too many accidents—if you get the timing right.
