When restraint or seclusion is used, the patient must be seen face-to-face within 1 hour after the initiation of the intervention by a physician or Registered nurse who has been trained in accordance with the requirements specified in paragraph (n) of this section, to evaluate ▸ The patients immediate situation; ▸
An educational provider may use seclusion or a behavioral restraint only to control behavior that poses a clear and present danger of serious physical harm to the pupil or others that cannot be immediately prevented by a response that is less restrictive.
The initial and all subsequent restraint or seclusion orders shall expire in: 4 hours for adults 18 years of age or older 2 hours for patients 9-17 years of age 1 hour for patients under 9 years of age Orders may be renewed according to the time limits for a maximum of 24 consecutive hours.
Be sure to place the restraint at the waist, not the chest or the abdomen. Bring the ties through the slots in the belt. Avoid applying the belt too tightly. Help the patient lie down if he or she is in bed.
You can report prolonged services when you use time to select your visit level and you exceed your total time for the highest-level visit by 15 or more minutes on medically necessary services.
