How a reading log works Set aside time to read. Choose a book (or grab their assignment). Spend time reading. Record the books title, author and the amount of time read or the number of pages read (being sure to complete the minimum required). Complete any additional questions or activities in their reading log.
Some teachers may want to extend the benefits of a shared reading session by doing a second reading of the same text. During the second reading, children can join in with reading even more, as theyre familiar with the words and phrases. The children and teacher may take turns reading.
The reading log prompts children to write the book title, the author, the date they started reading, the date completed and a five-star review rating. This is a great way to monitor all the books children have read and how long it takes them on average to fully read.
The second stage, early reading (ages 5 to 7), sees children interacting with words and beginning to learn decoding and phonics. In the third stage, transitional reading (ages 7 to 9), students shift from learning to read to reading to learn, enhancing their fluency and exploring diverse literature independently.
I started with title, author, number of pages, and star ratings. I usually include a few special quotes, if I remember to do that while Im reading. If not, no big deal. Sometimes I write a quick summary to help me remember the story line. Its important that each book/movie, etc. starts on a new page.
