How does SPP work?

The SPP period starts the day after the last day your employee worked before starting their paternity leave. SPP weeks start with the first day of the pay period. For example an SPP period which starts on a Wednesday will have pay weeks within the pay period which run from Wednesday to the following Tuesday.

How to record SPP on Sage Payroll?

Process manual SPP Select the required employee, then click Payroll. Click Enter Payments, then click the Summary tab. For Statutory Paternity Pay, under Current, click the finder button. Select SPP, then click OK. Enter the value of the SPP due in the Ordinary SPP box or the Additional SPP box as required. Click OK.

What does SPP mean in payroll?

When an employee takes time off work because their partner is having a baby or adopting a child then they may be eligible to claim Statutory Paternity Pay (SPP). The rules which determine whether or not an employee is entitled to SPP are built into Payroll Manager.

How long do you get SPP?

When you take time off because your partner is having a baby, or you are adopting a child or having a baby through surrogacy, you may be eligible for one or two weeks of paternity leave and to receive Statutory Paternity Pay (SPP).

How is SPP calculated?

SPP is paid at at either 90% of the employees average weekly earnings, or at the statutory rate, whichever is the lower. For 2024-25 the statutory rate is 184.03 (for 2023-24 the statutory rate is 172.48). Please see Paternity pay and leave: Overview GOV.UK (.gov.uk) for further details.
