At any time after completing 7 years of continuous employment with one employer, an employee is entitled to an amount of long service leave on ordinary pay.
(b) if the applicable award, certified agreement or industrial agreement does not contain a provision for an employee to apply to cash out their long service leave, the employee may submit an application to the Queensland Industrial Relations Commission (QIRC) to cash out part, or all of their long service leave
Most employees are entitled to unpaid parental leave when a child is born or adopted. Parental leave includes maternity leave (for mums), paternity leave (for dads and partners) and adoption leave. You may also be able to claim paid parental leave through the Australian Governments Parental Leave scheme.
Employees may have an entitlement to receive proportionate payment of long service leave on termination of employment after completing 7 years continuous service.
Long service leave is paid at the ordinary rate (i.e. excluding overtime payments) being paid to the employee at the time of taking the leave. If an employee is paid above the award rate, the long service leave is to be paid at the higher rate.
