The Georgia School Tax Exemption Program helps some homeowners lower or waive school taxes they owe. This benefit is offered under the states Homestead Exemption program, which helps people save money on property taxes for the home they live in.
Basic Homestead (Code L1) You must own your home and reside in the home on January 1st of the year in which you apply for the exemption. The exemption will reduce the assessed value for county taxes by $15,000 and $4,000 for school. You only file once as long as you live in the same house.
There are only 3 Homestead levels that will fully exempt an individual from paying School Taxes. They are: L9 (Age 70+). L19 (Disabled Veteran Age 70+).
