Veterans with a 100% disability rating are fully exempt from property taxes. 70% to 99% may receive a $12,000 exemption from their propertys taxable value. 50% to 69% may receive a $10,000 reduction from the propertys value.
You must be 70 or older. For Clauses 41C and 41C, the eligible age may be reduced to 65 or older, by vote of the legislative body of your city or town. You must own and occupy the property as your domicile.
Those eligible for exemptions generally need to apply with their local tax assessor, including schools, religious groups, charities, those with disabilities, veterans and the elderly.
Currently eleven municipalities in Massachusetts use the residential exemption: Boston, Brookline, Cambridge, Chelsea, Marlboro, Nantucket, Somerset, Somerville, Tisbury, Waltham, and Watertown.
