When buying or selling a home, the Building Department wants to help make sure that the property is safe and healthy for human habitation. To this end, a Certificate of Approval is required on all houses being sold or transferred to another party prior to the closing of the residential sale.
As for the final occupancy permit, the Contractor shall secure it but he shall not be responsible to the Owner if the license is not issued or there was delay in its issuance for reasons that are not attributable to the Contractor's fault.
Certificates of Occupancy will be issued within ten (10) working days. Under no circumstances may any building be occupied or used until a Certificate of Occupancy / Approval is issued. A penalty of $2,000 will be assessed!
