Standing Authority for Agent/Freight Forwarder(s) to request Deferment of Duty. Payment against Importers Deferment Approval Number (DAN) THIS FORM IS TO BE COMPLETED SUBMITTED BY THE DEFERMENT APPROVAL. NUMBER (DAN) HOLDER IN ALL CASES (PLEASE COMPLETE IN CAPITALS)
What is deferred duty payment? Ans: It is a mechanism for delinking duty payment and Customs clearance. It is based on the principle Clear first-Pay later. The aim is to have a seamless wharf to warehouse transit in order to facilitate just-in-time manufacturing.
Once you have been approved by HM Revenue Customs to use a deferment account you will receive a deferment account Number (DAN), which is your individual account number with HM Revenue Customs.
You will need to meet all the conditions in advance and have your request approved by HMRC before you can set up an account. Once your request is approved, you will receive a dedicated 7 digit DAN, or Deferment Approval Number.
Postponed VAT allows businesses to account for import VAT on their VAT return, effectively delaying the need for immediate cash outflow until the VAT return is due. In contrast, deferred VAT only postpones payment to the 15th of the following month, but also delays the payment of duty.
