The Office of Ombudsman for Long-Term Care (OOLTC) is an independent state agency that serves people needing or receiving long-term care through complaint investigation, advocacy, and education.
What Does This Ombudsman Do? Ombudsman definition: The Ombudsman (om-budz-muhn) is an independent governmental official who receives complaints against government (and government regulated) agencies and/or its officials, who investigates, and who if the complaints are justified, takes action to remedy the complaints.
If we need to make a final decision, an ombudsman will review the complaint by looking at the available evidence and the case decision. If you accept the ombudsmans decision, the service provider must follow the steps it sets out. If you do not accept the ombudsmans decision, there are no more steps in our process.
6770 (November 17, 1989), otherwise known as The Ombudsman Act of 1989, provided for the functional and structural organization of the Office of the Ombudsman. The Office of the Ombudsman protects the people from illegal, unjust, improper or inefficient act of any public official, employee, office or agency.
Ombudsmen often serve as mediators, negotiators and consultants. When communication has broken down between consumers and their families, or consumers and providers, the Ombudsman is frequently called upon to help mediate a resolution in which the clients voice is heard above all others.
