The QIDS-SR measures the severity of depressive symptoms in adults 18 and older. There are 16 measures, selected from the Inventory of Depressive Symptomology (IDS, 2000).
The 16-item Quick Inventory of Depressive Symptomatology (QIDS), clinician rating (QIDS-C), and self-report (QIDS-SR): a psychometric evaluation in patients with chronic major depression.
The QIDS-SR is not designed to diagnose depression, but rather to assess the severity of symptoms of a person who has been diagnosed as having depression by a clinician.
Total QIDS scores range from 0 to 27 (Rush et al., 2003), with scores of 5 or lower indicative of no depression, scores from 6 to 10 indicating mild depression, 11 to 15 indicating moderate depression, 16 to 20 reflecting severe depression, and total scores greater than 21 indicating very severe depression.
QIDS-SR16 depression severity thresholds have been suggested (.ids-qids.org) of 6 to10 for mild, 11 to 15 for moderate, 16 to 20 for severe, and 21+ for very severe depression.
