How long does it take to do the SEVIS transfer? As the SEVIS transfer is electronic, it happens instantaneously. Your SEVIS record will be sent to your new school electronically on your transfer release date. After the release it, it will take some time for them to create your new I-20.
On the transfer release date, the DSO at the transfer-in school controls the students SEVIS record. The student must begin classes at the transfer-in school at the next available term or within five months, whichever is sooner, unless taking an authorized break or vacation during that term.
