McNair Scholars develop research skills and professional experience that make them sought after by some of the best graduate programs in the nation.

How many McNair scholars are there?

Each year, the program maintains a cohort of 28 juniors and seniors from a variety of majors in the Humanities, Arts, Social Sciences, STEM, and applied or interdisciplinary Sciences.

What are the requirements to be a McNair scholar?

Who is Eligible to Participate? An applicant for the McNair Program must either be a: first-generation college student with demonstrated high financial need, or. member of an underrepresented group, which has traditionally been underrepresented at the graduate level (African American, Latino American, Native American).

How competitive is the McNair Scholars program?

Admission to the McNair Scholars Program is competitive, but applicants are encouraged to contact the McNair staff to discuss special circumstances. McNair Scholars must have a satisfactory GPA and 60 or more credits by the end of the spring semester.

Do McNair Scholars get paid?

The McNair Scholars program is a highly-selective research and graduate school preparatory program. The program does, however, provide a $2,800 stipend. Additional funds for travel to cultural events and conferences are provided.

Is the McNair Scholars program worth it?

Eligibility. Students who qualify for McNair must be enrolled in a degree-granting program at an eligible institution. In all projects, at least two-thirds of the participants must be low-income, potential first-generation college students.
