The amount of sample required depends on the mass spectrometry service to be performed. In general, 1 mL of a 10 ppm sample or 1 mg in solid form is enough for all applications.
Sample concentration should be prepared with the aim to achieve a column loading of approximately 10ng, which should yield reasonable mass spectra. E.g. a concentration of approximately 0.1mg/mL would be appropriate for samples injected with a split ratio of 10:1 and a 1uL injection volume.
Mass spectrometry data should be given in the form: m/z 183 (M+, 41%), 168 (38), 154 (9), 138 (31) etc. The molecular ion may be specified as shown if desired. Relative intensities should be shown in parentheses (% only included once).
The sensitivity of a mass spectrometer can be defined as the minimum sample size required for optimal accuracy and precision. Conventionally, 0.55 mg N are required for N isotope analysis, but recent advances in automation (see Section II.
Dissolve 1-2 mg sample in methanol/ethanol/water and centrifuge. After that filter it through syringe filter. Your sample is ready for LCMS analysis.
