When Do Welding Certifications Expire? Welding certifications are usually good for anywhere from six months to three years.
Welder continuity is the idea that a welder must continue to weld using a given process within a six month period to remain a \u201cqualified welder\u201d (See ASME Sec. IX, QW-322). ASME Section IX states that if a welder \u201chas not welded with a process during a period of six months or more\u201d he must be re-qualified.
A WELDING CERTIFICATION IS EFFECTIVE INDEFINITELY According to American Welding Society AWS D1. 1, Clause 4.2. 3.1, a welder's qualification is effective indefinitely, AS-LONG-AS, that welder does not go more than six months without using that process.
