The essential elements of a 4-H experience are the best practices that help staff and volunteers address the four basic developmental needs of youth - belonging, generosity, independence, and mastery.
Each 4-Her can submit up one or two books. Arts, Environmental Science, Consumer Family Sciences, Plant Science, Healthy Lifestyles, Science Technology, Personal Development/Leadership, and Discovery (9- 10 year old only).
Through 4-H, youth learn valuable life skills that enable them to grow into productive citizens. Through hands-on learning opportunities in many different areas of interest, youth develop critical thinking skills, gain self-confidence, set and achieve goals, and learn responsibility.
When a child turns 9, they may join as a 4-H member regardless of grade level. 4-H membership ends on July 31 following the completion of the 12th grade, equivalence of 12th grade, GED or having docHubed the age of 19 on or before September 1, whichever comes first.
What is the 4-H Pledge? I pledge my HEAD to clearer thinking, my HEART to greater loyalty, my HANDS to larger service, and my HEALTH to better living, for my club, my community, my country, and my world. Head stands for decision making, planning, organizing, problem solving and using knowledge throughout life.
