What is the 5 month rule for SEVIS transfer?

Your USC program must begin no later than five (5) months after the end of your current program or OPT. This is very important. Your SEVIS record will be cancelled automatically after five months. USC will not accept Terminated, Cancelled or Completed SEVIS records.

Can someone pay SEVIS fee on my behalf?

Additional SEVIS I-901 Fee Information F-2 dependents do NOT have to pay a SEVIS fee. The FAQ on the DHS website includes a list of others who do not have to pay the fee. Anyone can pay the SEVIS fee on behalf of any student.

Can SEVIS be transferred?

SEVIS transfers must be requested just before you complete or graduate from your current program, or during the 60-day grace period after the program ends. Policies vary by school. If you are on OPT, it will be terminated when your record is released to USC.

How do I transfer SEVIS from one university to another?

Upon acceptance to a new school, the student must request their record be release by submitting a F-1 SEVIS Transfer Out Request Form or a J-1 SEVIS Transfer Out Request Form to OIS.
