Retirement incentive programs, unlike retirement benefit program (discussed in Chapter 4), are specifically designed to encourage faculty turnover, typically by offering part-time employment or payment in exchange for an agreement to retire.
FERP is a program that allows tenured faculty who are eligible for service retirement to retire and continue teaching for a maximum time-base and duration for a maximum of five years as established in the Unit 3 Faculty Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Pre-retirement is the stage before you retire, this usually is around 5 to 10 years before you retire. Around this time many people begin to shift their focus from levelling up in their careers to focusing on the financial planning aspect for retirement.
What is FERP? Answer: FERP is the CSU Faculty Early Retirement Program, described in CBA Article 29. It allows tenured faculty to retire from CalPERS and receive their full pension while also receiving up to 50% of their salary at retirement for working that same timebase for up to 5 years.
