Student Assistants typically work for universities or colleges in a specific department to provide administrative support to campus staff as they complete classes. They work closely with other Student Assistants and full-time campus employees to complete their work activities.
While academic credit is not awarded after the program, COSMOS is considered an Academic Preparation Program for which students who participate can indicate so on their University of California admissions application. Some UC campuses give special consideration to those who have participated in COSMOS.
Q: Is there a minimum GPA to be accepted into COSMOS? A: The average unweighted GPA for applicants is around 3.8, with a particular focus on math and/or science grades. Achievement can also be documented through competition in science fairs or other activities.
Q: Who may attend COSMOS? A: California students completing grades eight through twelve by the summer in which they wish to participate may apply to COSMOS. Prerequisites may be required to ensure success in the courses offered.
The selection is competitive. A typical COSMOS student has a GPA of 3.5 or above. In addition, students must have achieved academic excellence.
