What happens if you dont fill out I-9?

Unremunerated individuals, including interns/student trainees and volunteers, are not required to complete an I-9. Job applicants should not complete an I-9.

If they worked for less than two years, retain their form for three years after the date you entered in the First Day of Employment field. If they worked for more than two years, retain their form for one year after the date they stop working for you.
