Is there a grace period for CPT?

If you maintain your F-1 status throughout your OPT period, complete your OPT, and do not exceed your unemployment time, you are entitled to a 60 day grace period starting on the employment end date.

How long can a CPT be extended?

CPT is only authorized for the dates of the specific semester. CPT I-20 start dates will be listed either as the requested start date or the approval date, whichever is later. Restrictions on end dates may occur based on the start of RA/TA positions. Program extensions will not be granted for the purpose of CPT.

What happens when CPT expires?

Stop working on the end date of your CPT authorization on page 2 of your CPT I-20. You do not need a new I-20 at the end of CPT. The I-20 is still valid until the program end date on page 1, as long as you continue to maintain your full-time enrollment.

How do I extend my CPT end date?

If you need to extend the dates of your CPT authorization, it is your responsibility to contact ISS. In most cases, course enrollment must first be verified before CPT authorization can be granted. If the CPT experience will extend beyond the semester for which you have been authorized, you may request an extension.
