The terms student employment and work study are used interchangeably at Emory Henry University, but student employment is the overarching term for any job held by students.
Essentially, they are both referring to the same thing, that is employment for students. The difference is where the money comes from. Work Study is funding that is provided by the State or Federal government, and is determined based on your FAFSA.
To determine Work-Study eligibility, students must complete the FAFSA form and MUST indicate their interest in Work-Study. The information provided in the FAFSA helps schools determine a students eligibility for Work-Study funds.
Work-study funds are usually for your day-to-day expenses. Typically, work-study pay is for your day-to-day needs such as food, transportation, and school supplies. Some schools allow you to apply your work-study funds directly to your account for billed expenses such as tuition, fees, and food and housing.
To remain eligible for Work-Study, students must be enrolled full-time by the end of each semesters Add-Drop period. An exception is made for graduate students in the Schools of Social Work and Law, who must have half-time status.
