To receive a separation refund, you must have terminated your employment from all SURS-covered employers or you must have been on layoff for over 120 days. If you wish to withdraw your funds from SURS, you must complete an Application for Separation Refund.
You cannot work for any IMRF employer for at least 60 days after your pension start date. After 60 days from the pension start date, you may return to post-retirement work for an IMRF employer, as long as there was no pre-arranged agreement made before retirement.
After IMRF has received all required information for your benefit claim, it will take approximately eight weeks to process your refund. This includes member contribution refunds and Voluntary Additional Contributions refunds.
To apply for a refund online, sign in to your Member Access account and follow the prompts. Did you know? You are not required to take a refund when you leave your IMRF employer. If you are no longer participating in IMRF but still working for the same IMRF employer, you cannot take a refund.
