3-credit hour internship, field work course, or practicum = approximately 10 contact hours/week or 150 200 hours/semester. 6-credit hour internship, field work course, or practicum = approximately 20 contact hours/week or 300 400 hours/semester.
Qualified, degree-seeking students may enroll in credit-bearing, paid or unpaid Internship work assignments with a significant academic component under the guidance of an American University instructor. Instructor and teaching unit approvals are required for internships.
Paid interns must complete the Form I-9. ing to U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, a paid intern is: any person [who] perform[s] labor or services in the United States in return for wages or other remuneration.
Students will work 70 hours over the 14-week semester (5 hours per week) per credit, for a maximum of 3 credits (210 total hours). Grades will be based upon the required coursework indicated in the syllabus and evaluations collected from your internship site supervisor.
