Although 61 transplant hospitals across the country have performed at least one living donor liver transplant in the past two years, most of the surgeries cluster in a cohort of hospitals with very active living donor transplant programs.

Because the waiting list is so long, you must have a very high MELD score to get a transplant at UCSF or other local transplant centers. Most patients are quite sick by the time they receive a transplant, and some will die before they can get one.
Our team has performed more than 1,400 adult liver transplants, exceeding national patient and liver survival rates at the one- and three-year marks after transplantation. Stanfords Liver Transplant Program is considered one of the most active and successful liver transplant centers in the country.
Though no longer part of Stanford University, we remain an integral part of Stanford Medicine. Over time, SBC has developed a large whole blood, apheresis and special donations blood collection program in response to the growing needs of our partner hospitals.
