John Carrolls Honors Program is rooted in the Universitys Ignatian tradition. That tradition prioritizes the development of the whole human person via deep and broad engagement through courses in our core curriculum that exclusively enroll students in the Honors Program.
SMU offers an extensive range of Honors and Scholars programs for SMU students. Those contained in the Honors Scholars department are: the Hilltop Scholars Program, the Rotunda Scholars Program, the University Honors Program, the Mustang Scholars Program, and the Presidents Scholars Program.
Generally, students in the top 10% of the entering first year class will receive an invitation to participate in the University Honors Program. Invitations are mailed to selected students soon after they have been notified of their admission to SMU.
Official Admission: Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.8 (conditional admission from GPA 2.5 2.79 may be possible)
No separate application is required. Students who apply to SMU are automatically reviewed for the UHP. Members are reviewed on the basis of academic merit reflected in their standardized test scores, unweighted high school GPA, and rigor of high school curriculum.
