Legally, there is no limit to strict babysitting. As long as you dont call it a daycare center or ever refer to it *as* a daycare. A daycare involves MUCH more than just watching a few kids - there are very strict rules and laws on what is needed, you have to be registered with the state and/or city, etc.
Under Wisconsin law, no person may provide care and supervision for four (4) or more children under the age of 7 for less than 24 hours a day unless that person obtains a license to operate a child care center from the Department.
Typically, gaining a child welfare certification starts with applying through an accredited program or college. After completing the coursework, workshops, and internship, applicants will take one or more exams.

I have questions about child care complaints, child care licensing, or general questions for providers. Contact the Bureau of Early Care Regulation Central Office at 608-421-7550 or your Regional Office.
