Independent living communities are retirement communities composed of residents that are typically 55 years of age and older. There are usually no upper age limits for these communities. Residents of independent living communities are typically expected to be able to live independently or near independently.
To qualify for independent living, seniors typically need to be at least 55 years old and able to live independently without assistance. They should also be in good health and able to manage their own daily activities.
The grants that help fund CIL state that at a minimum, we are required to provide the following IL core services: information and referral; IL skills training; peer counseling; individual and systems advocacy; and services that facilitate transition from nursing homes and other institutions to the community, provide
The State of Alabama Independent Living (SAIL) Waiver provides services to disabled adults 18 years of age or older who have specific medical diagnoses and who would otherwise qualify for care in a nursing care facility.
