As a defined benefit retirement plan, PERA provides you with benefits to help you on your journey to retirement. As a PERA member, you contribute a percentage of every paycheck to PERA. In exchange, youll receive a lifetime defined benefit payment, or a pension, at retirement.
Your benefits last as long as you live. Taking benefits before your full retirement age (as early as age 62) lowers the amount you get each month. Delaying benefits past full retirement age (up to age 70) increases the monthly amount for the rest of your life.
Most members will deplete their contribution balance within three to four years of collecting their benefit. This means there are usually no contributions left in a members account upon death to pay out to a beneficiary or estate.
Your PERA benefit is from a defined benefit plan, which means your monthly pension is determined by a formula and is payable for life.
Vesting. Being vested means you qualify for lifetime monthly benefits when you are first eligible to start collecting a monthly benefit. Each PERA Plan has different vesting requirements. See your Plan handbook for more information.

How much can one contribute to his PERA? Contributions to the PERA amounting to more than ₱200,000 or ₱400,000, as the case may be, shall not be accepted by the Administrator under the PERA. Employers who also contribute to its employees PERA may do up to the extent of the maximum annual qualified contribution.
Your PERA pension is an excellent benefit, and while it may be the biggest tool in your retirement toolbox, its not intended to replace all of your salary. It is recommended to have 80100% of your pre-retirement net income to maintain your same standard of living after you retire.
It comprises different forms of discrimination and bias. It usually results in unequal treatment of employees based on race, age, sexual orientation, religion, gender or other factors. Exclusion manifests in several ways that create a toxic work environment with microtensions leading to a hostile atmosphere.
