Effective July 1, 2025, the COLA rate is 2.00% for those with a retirement date on or before July 1, 2024. The COLA for UC-PERS Plus 5 benefit recipients is also 2% (same as that for UCRP benefit recipients with a retirement date of October 1, 1991).
A COLA is a permanent increase in a monthly annuity (pension check). A 13th check or stipend is a one-time additional payment. It is called a 13th check or stipend because the amount is in addition to the 12 regular monthly checks you get from ERS. It is another checka 13th check or stipend.
The 13th check is referred to as a bonus check. The bonus check, which is usually issued each December 15th , is computed on a percentage basis multiplied by the number of years retired and annual income received.
