No admissions committee for any health professional school likes to see Q drops on a transcript. This is an indication that something became too much for you to handle and that you chose to drop the course rather than see it through.
Once you have dropped a class, you no longer have to attend it, and you will no longer receive a grade in that course. Instead, there will usually be a W (for Withdrawn) next to the courses name, instead of a letter grade, on your transcript. This W will not affect your GPA.
Important Notes on Q Drops: A Q drop does not affect your GPA (you will see a Q on your transcript instead of a grade). Up to 6 Q drops are allowed during your time at UT. The OTE Q drop counts as one of your six.
The official student record does not delineate between academic and non-academic Q-drops. What is the difference between an Academic Q-drop and a nonacademic Q-drop? Academic Q-drops may be requested if the class is too difficult, not challenging enough, if the class is no longer needed or for other academic reasons.
Most colleges will give you specific deadlines to both add and drop classes. When you drop a class before the drop deadline, its as if it never happened. This means that it wont show up on your transcripts and whatever grade you earned up until that point will disappear from your academic history.
