In Kentucky, homeowners who are least 65 years of age or who have been classified as totally disabled and meet other requirements are eligible to receive a homestead exemption.
Two exemptions are available for qualifying property owner(s). The Homestead Exemption is available to property owners that are 65 years old, or older. The Disability Exemption is available to property owners that have been classified as totally disabled by any public or private retirement system.
Kentucky Veterans who are at least 65 years old or totally disabled as a result of military service may receive a property tax exemption of up to $46,350 for their primary residence. This limit changes annually for inflation and is for the 2023-2024 tax year.
The homestead exemption is $40,500 for both 2021 and 2022. The exemption amount is subtracted from the propertys assessed value, which reduces the owners property tax liability. For example, if the owners residence is assessed at a value of $250,000, 2021 property taxes would be computed on $209,500.
Tax-exempt customers Some customers are exempt from paying sales tax under Kentucky law. Examples include government agencies, some nonprofit organizations, and merchants purchasing goods for resale. Sellers are required to collect a valid exemption or resale certificate from buyers to validate each exempt transaction.
