Landlords of residential property in Minnesota must send their tenants (renters) a Certificate of Rent Paid (CRP) form by January 31 each year. Landlords can get this form from the state by searching for \u201cCRP form\u201d at http://www.revenue.state.mn.us/.
You must include all CRPs with your return. The CRP shows how much rent you paid during the previous year. You must include all CRPs when applying for your Renter's Property Tax Refund. Your landlord must give you a completed CRP by January 31.
Claimants can check the status of their refund by calling DOR at 651-296-4444 or online at www.revenue.state.mn.us.
Refund claims are filed using Minnesota Department of Revenue (DOR) Schedule M1PR. Schedule M1PR is filed separately from the individual income tax form. Claims filed before August 15, 2021, will be paid beginning in August 2021.
You may qualify for a Renter's Property Tax Refund depending on your income and rent paid. To qualify, all of these must be true: You have a valid Social Security Number or Individual Tax Identification Number. You are a Minnesota resident or spent at least 183 days in the state.
