SFMNP was established in 2001 as a USDA pilot program designed to improve low-income seniors diets. The 2002 Farm Bill permanently authorized the program and provided $15 million per year to implement and expand it nationwide.
Eligibility: Must be age 60 or older, or turning 60 by December 31. Income guidelines apply.
In Pennsylvania, seniors may qualify for Medicaid, Medicare or one of the states Medicaid waiver programs, making it easier to afford the cost of in-home care, assisted living or nursing home care. Pennsylvanias Medicaid program, Medical Assistance, covers home health services and nursing home care.
What can I buy with FMNP coupons? You can buy locally grown, fresh vegetables, fruits, and herbs at farmers markets in New York. You cannot buy tropical or citrus fruits or non-produce items like apple cider, honey, maple syrup, eggs, baked goods, jams and jellies, plants, flowers, or decorative pumpkins and gourds.
