Senate Bill 1263, sponsored by the California Teachers Association, will now move to the Senate Appropriations Committee. If ultimately approved by the Legislature, it will do away with the California Teaching Performance Assessment, known as the CalTPA.
These assessments are designed to make sure all graduates have the essential teaching skills needed to be successful in the classroom and in working with Californias K-12 students.
Each of the three approved teaching performance assessment models, CalTPA, edTPA, and FAST requires a candidate to complete defined performance tasks relating to subject-specific pedagogy, designing and implementing instruction and student assessment, video-recording teaching, and reflecting on practice.
Minimum Passing Standard CalTPA For Cycle 1, which includes 8 rubrics, a final cut score of 19 points with one score of 1 allowed.
Instructional Cycle 2 includes four specific steps to be completed in order: plan, teach and assess, reflect, then apply. ❖ Step 1: Plan.

If you dont pass a CalTPA cycle, you can re-submit that cycle, making targeted revisions based on the feedback you receive from your rubric scores. The CalTPA co-coordinators also provide guidance and support for candidates who do not pass a cycle.
The Teaching Performance Assessment is a state-mandated assessment required for all candidates for a Multiple Subject or Single Subject Credential.
