The Lower Mississippi Alluvial Valley is the nations largest floodplain, covering more than 24 million acres across portions Arkansas, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri and Tennessee.
The AVA stretches along the Upper Mississippi river from Minneapolis to Davenport. This covers nearly 30,000 square miles (77,000 square kilometers) of land, and over 500 miles of river. This distance is greater than that between Champagne and even the most southerly vineyards of Languedoc-Roussillon.
