NHS cancer screening programmes can help to diagnose cancer or risk of cancer earlier and improve the likelihood of successful treatment. There are three national cancer screening programmes in England.
The Cancer Services Program (CSP) provides , cervical and colorectal cancer screenings and diagnostic services at NO COST to people who: Live in New York State. Do not have health insurance. Have health insurance with a cost share that may prevent a person from obtaining screening and/or diagnostic services.
The Medicaid Cancer Treatment Program (MCTP) is a Medicaid program for eligible persons who are found to be in need of treatment for , cervical, colorectal or prostate cancer (and in some cases pre- cancerous conditions of these cancers).
Cancer screening is looking for cancer before a person has any symptoms. Screening tests can help find cancer at an early stage, before symptoms appear. When abnormal tissue or cancer is found early, it may be easier to treat or cure. By the time symptoms appear, the cancer may have grown and spread.
Imaging tests used in diagnosing cancer may include a computerized tomography (CT) scan, bone scan, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), positron emission tomography (PET) scan, ultrasound and X-ray, among others.
