Agency mission The U.S. Chemical Safety and Hazard Investigation Board (CSB) is an independent, non-regulatory federal agency whose mission is to drive chemical safety change through independent investigations to protect people and the environment. The CSB does not issue fines or citations.
The Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970 heralded a new era in the history of public efforts to protect workers from harm on the job. This Act established for the first time a nationwide, federal program to protect almost the entire work force from job-related death, injury and illness.
Their goal was to make sure employers provide their workers a place of employment free from recognized hazards to safety and health, such as exposure to toxic chemicals, excessive noise levels, mechanical dangers, heat or cold stress, or unsanitary conditions.
THE OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND HEALTH ACT OF 1970, EXECUTIVE ORDER 12196 AND 29 CFR 1960 REQUIRE THE HEADS OF FEDERAL AGENCIES TO ESTABLISH PROGRAMS TO PROTECT THEIR PERSONNEL FROM JOB SAFETY AND OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH HAZARDS.
