For tax years beginning 2018, the 1040A and EZ forms are no longer available. They have been replaced with an updated 1040 form. For those who are filing prior year returns, you can continue to use form 1040A or EZ for tax years through 2017.
The IRS eliminated Form 1040-A for the 2018 tax year in favor of the redesigned Form 1040. Another variant of Form 1040 was Form 1040-EZ, which was even simpler than Form 1040-A and was also eliminated starting with the 2018 tax filing.
As of tax year 2018, Form 1040A has been discontinued but it was a simplified version of the standard 1040 tax form. This form was previously used by taxpayers with straightforward financial situations, allowing for easier filing of income, deductions, and credits. Now Forms 1040 and 1040-SR are used.
In 2018, the IRS eliminated Form 1040A and Form 1040EZ, replacing them with a single, redesigned Form 1040. Now, all taxpayers must use Form 1040, with additional schedules for complex tax situations (business income, capital gains, itemized deductions).
