Eligibility: Public Housing is limited to low-income families and individuals. A Public Housing Authority determines eligibility based on 1) annual gross income, 2) whether you qualify as elderly, a person with disabilities or as a family, and 3) U.S. citizenship or eligible immigration status.
Family as defined by HUD, includes but is not limited to the following, regardless of actual or perceived sexual orientation, gender identity, or marital status, a single person, who may be an elderly person, disabled person, near-elderly person, or any other single person; or a group of persons residing together.
Heres what to do: Contact your local PHA office. Review the requirements that your PHA has laid out. Set up an appointment with the PHA housing inspector. If your property is approved, you will then need to fill out a W-9 and some more paperwork to be able to receive voucher payments.
