ASU named its law school after Justice OConnor in 2006, the first law school in the nation to be named after a contemporary female. Justice OConnor was a frequent visitor of the law school, inspiring students to strive for excellence and serve the greater good.
She graduated sixth in her class at Austin High School in El Paso in 1946. When she was 16 years old, Day enrolled at Stanford University and later graduated magna cum laude with a B.A. in economics in 1950. She continued at Stanford Law School for her law degree in 1952.
In 2022, a total of 5,717 students applied to the Sandra Day OConnor College of Law, and 1,178 were accepted. Among the admitted students, 303 successfully enrolled full-time in the school. The acceptance rate was 20.61%, and the enrollment rate was 25.72%.
