Under the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 you must assess risks and implement and review control measures to prevent or minimise exposure to these risks. To properly manage exposure to risks, you must: identify workplace hazards. determine who might be harmed, and how.
All mines must comply with obligations under either the Coal Mining Safety and Health Act 1999 or the Mining and Quarrying Safety and Health Act 1999 to protect the safety and health of persons at mines.
The Coal Mining Safety and Health Act 1999 and the Mining and Quarrying Safety and Health Act 1999now require a site senior executive (SSE) for a mine to be located at or near the mine site when performing their duties, unless they are temporarily absent, provided that the absence is for not more than 14 days.
