Site Ownership: Proprietary controls originate from responsibilities of site ownership. The Fernald site and OSDF will remain in federal ownership in perpetuity. DOE Office of Legacy Management is responsible for monitoring and maintenance of the OSDF and Fernald Preserve property.
Fernald is one of two former nuclear sites that have been decontaminated to the point where the public can visit.
The Fernald Preserve is located in southwest Ohio, about 18 miles northwest of Cincinnati. West on I-275 for approximately 21 miles through Indiana. to I-74 junction in Ohio. East on I-74 and I-275 for 2 miles (toward Cincinnati) to Exit 7, State Route 128 (Hamilton-Cleves Highway).
