Twice-Daily Cattle Drive Both of the cattle drives, which occur at 11:30 a.m. and 4 p.m., are about eight minutes long. The drive starts at the Fort Worth Petting Zoo (157 E. Exchange Ave.) across from Stockyards Station and concludes just beyond the Livestock Exchange Building.
The Fort Worth Herd was established on June 12, 1999 to commemorate the citys early history, and has been under the management of Visit Fort Worth since 2010. The Herd consists of 17 longhorn steers, one steer for every decade since Fort Worths founding.
Between 1866 and 1890, drovers trailed more than four million head of cattle through Fort Worth. The city soon became known as Cowtown.
Daily | 11:30AM and 4pm The Fort Worth Herd presents Stockyard visitors with a glimpse into Fort Worths rich Western heritage with our twice-daily cattle drives. In preserving its heritage as Cowtown, the City of Fort Worth has its own herd of Texas Longhorns one for each decade of Fort Worths 170-year history.
Every detail of the cattle drivefrom the saddles and chaps to the boots and hats is authentic and historically true. The Fort Worth Herd steers can be viewed and photographed daily in their pens behind the Livestock Exchange building on East Exchange Avenue.
