Purpose: Form BT-1 is an application used when registering with the Indiana Department of Revenue for Sales Tax, Withholding Tax, Out-of- State Use Tax, Food and Beverage Tax, County Innkeepers Tax, Tire Fee, and Motor Vehicle Rental Excise Tax, or a combination of these taxes.
Once registered, you will receive an Indiana Taxpayer Identification Number (TID) allowing your business to be identified in the Indiana Department of Revenues (DOR) system. TIDs are required for paying state taxes and withholding taxes. Withholding of county income tax is required in all 92 Indiana counties.
Register for an Indiana Registered Retail Merchant Certificate Online by filling out and submitting the State Sales Tax Registration form. This certificate will furnish your business with a unique sales tax number (Indiana Sales Tax ID Number).
Generally, if you were a resident of another state (or country) at any time during the year and had income from Indiana (except certain interest, dividends or pension income), you must file a tax return with Indiana. Read more about your residency status and choosing the right form to file.
