There is no independent application process for the Preparatory School unless you are enlisted. If you apply to the Academy and are not offered an appointment, you will be automatically considered for admission into the Preparatory School.
Will I automatically be selected by the academy after I receive a nomination? No. You will be placed among a select group of nominees, and the academy of your choice will make the final decision. If selected, you will receive an offer of admission (an appointment) directly from the academy.

Without a nomination, you wouldnt be able to complete your application. There are, however, several sources of nominations, and youre not limited to just one.
Before you can be considered for appointment to the United States Air Force Academy, you must obtain a nomination. This is a competitive process, and you should seek a nomination in each of the categories for which you are eligible.
